Situated on the lap of Bagadu Mountain known for the Bauxite mining, Lohardaga town boasts of its unique and only Constituent College under Ranchi University that caters to the educational needs of the region. The college offers undergraduate courses and post-graduation degree in some disciplines. With the student strength of approximately 8000, the college dreams to transform society for a better tomorrow. Beginning with the motto to kindle the light of knowledge in the region, the college has come a long way on its historical journey. And the college is proud of its many alumni working in prestigious posts all over the country.

History

Baldeo Sahu Mahavidyala or B. S. College was established on 10th Oct 1964. On 26th April, 1968 the college was granted a permanent affiliation to Ranchi University. The College in its benign beginning offered Honours courses in Economics, History, Sanskrit and Urdu with session of 1969-70. In the following year the College began offering courses in Faculty of science. Subsequently, it became a constituent unit of the University in 1977. Later many other subjects were introduced with lately Honours courses in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology in the year 2009. Presently the College takes pride in offering 18 disciplines in Graduate Course and 6 Subjects in Post-Graduate Course. The College had its humble beginning with mere 200 students enrolled in 1964, which has swelled to approximately 10000 enrolled in 2022.
